Job Description – Real Estate and Development Lawyer
BC Housing is seeking a Real Estate and Development Lawyer to provide legal expertise on diverse real estate and development projects that contribute to the organization’s mission of creating affordable housing solutions. Collaborating closely with the Development Asset Strategies team, the successful candidate will advise on matters including real estate transactions, construction agreements, secured financing, and commercial leasing. This role offers the opportunity to work on community revitalization projects and complex development initiatives critical to BC Housing’s impact.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on real estate transactions, including commercial leasing, land acquisitions, financing, construction and development agreements.
- Collaborate with the Development Asset Strategies team on community revitalization projects and residential development.
- Draft and negotiate construction contracts and real estate purchase agreements.
- Advise on municipal law considerations, zoning, and regulatory approvals related to development projects.
- Manage external counsel on disputes arising from real estate and development projects, including construction-related issues.
- Monitor legislative changes affecting real estate and development practices.
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
- Law Degree (LL.B or J.D.) and membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia (or eligibility within three months).
- Minimum 4 years of legal experience, with a focus on real estate law, including development and construction.
- Familiarity with complex real estate financing and lease agreements.
- Strong organizational skills to manage diverse and large-scale development projects.
- Ability to navigate municipal regulations and legal frameworks impacting development.
Compensation ranges from $113,698 to $204,668, depending on experience.
