Aird & Berlis is expanding its Indigenous Practice Group in Toronto and Vancouver and is looking to add lawyers with additional corporate, litigation and Indigenous governance expertise to its growing team.
Now with 14+ lawyers, the group represents Indigenous nations, governments and organizations from across Canada in areas such as regulatory and environmental reviews, advancement of Indigenous title and rights through litigation and negotiations, including the negotiation and implementation of modern-day treaties and precedent-setting agreements tailormade for Indigenous participation in all aspects of major projects, including equity ownership.

Job Description – Lawyer, Corporate/Commercial
Due to ongoing growth, A&B is seeking a Corporate/Commercial lawyer to join its esteemed team. The successful candidate will represent clients in a range of corporate commercial transactions, with a particular focus on Indigenous matters.
Success in this role requires experience in corporate law and governance for Indigenous-owned corporations, non-profits, trusts and economic development projects impacting Indigenous lands and territories. Experience drafting and negotiating agreements involving Indigenous communities, businesses and corporate partners, such as joint ventures, equity partnership agreements, service contracts, limited partnership agreements, shareholder agreements, etc. will be prioritized.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Assist clients in a variety of corporate commercial matters, including M&A transactions and corporate reorganizations.
- Assist clients at all stages of the business growth cycle in respect to financings, strategic corporate transactions, and general corporate matters.
- Provide support to senior counsel and ensure deadlines are met.
- Participate in and support business development activities, including client relationship management.
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
- LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
- Good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
- 5+ years of corporate commercial experience at a top tier firm, and experience working with Indigenous clients and communities.
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and a pragmatic approach.
The compensation for this role ranges from $200,000 – $350,000+.
