Job Description – Senior Associate/Junior Partner, Private Client Tax
Our client has an immediate opening for a Senior Associate/Junior Partner, Private Client Tax. This role is ideal for a lawyer with at least five years of call who possesses extensive expertise in tax and succession planning for family-owned, privately managed, and owner-operated businesses. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, providing strategic advice to clients at every stage of their business journey.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Provide tailored legal guidance on tax planning and succession strategies to private business owners and family enterprises.
- Advise on reorganizations, acquisitions, divestitures, and other key transactions critical to the growth and continuity of privately held companies.
- Assist in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, including shareholder agreements designed to protect and future-proof businesses.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, integrating expertise in areas such as banking and finance, employment law, real estate, and intellectual property to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.
- Build and maintain relationships with a robust referral network of professionals, including accountants, wealth managers, and insurance advisors, to address non-legal client needs.
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
- LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
- Good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
- 5+ years of experience, with demonstrated expertise in tax planning, estate planning, and corporate structuring.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- A business-oriented, pragmatic approach to client service, paired with excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Proven ability to manage complex transactions and advise on critical business decisions with confidence.
